Space Time Measurements in Special Relativity
The conventional discussion of apparent distortions of space and time in Special Relativity (the Lorentz-Fitzgerald Contraction and Time Dilatation) is extended by considering observations of : (i) moving objects of limited lifetime in their own rest frame ('transient luminous objects') and (ii) a moving extended array of synchro-nised 'equivalent clocks' in a common inertial frame. Application...
متن کاملApproaching space time trough velocity in Doubly Special Relativity
We discuss the definition of velocity as dE/d|p|, where E,p are the energy and momentum of a particle, in Doubly Special Relativity (DSR). If this definition matches dx/dt appropriate for the space-time sector, then space-time can in principle be built consistently with the existence of an invariant length scale. We show that, within different possible definitions, this program fails, and this ...
متن کاملDeformed Special Relativity in Position Space
We investigate how deformations of special relativity in momentum space can be extended to position space in a consistent way, such that the dimensionless contraction between wave-vector and coordinate-vector remains invariant. By using a parametrization in terms of an energy dependent speed of light, and an energy dependent Planck’s constant, we are able to formulate simple requirements that c...
متن کاملVery Special Relativity in Curved Space-Times
The generalization of Cohen and Glashow’s Very Special Relativity to curved space-times is considered. Gauging the SIM(2) symmetry does not, in general, provide the coupling to the gravitational background. However, locally SIM(2) invariant Lagrangians can always be constructed. For space-times with SIM(2) holonomy, they describe chiral fermions propagating freely as massive particles.
متن کاملSpecial relativity induced by granular space
We show that the special relativistic dynamics, when combined with quantum mechanics and the concept of superstatistics, can be interpreted as arising from two interlocked non-relativistic stochastic processes that operate at different energy scales. This framework leads to Feynman amplitudes that are, in the Euclidean regime, identical to the transition probability of a Brownian particle propa...
